Dental Fillings

Also known as dental restoration, a dental filling is a material used to restore missing tooth structure typically caused by caries or external trauma. A filling is a short and quite simple procedure, usually performed in just one visit, which requires dental local anesthetic in most cases.

There is a broad range of materials being used to fill a broken tooth; at John Ickowicz D.D.S. we use the latest in materials to restore the function and morphology of your teeth. To determine the best possible option to be used for your fillings we will perform a detailed examination and then discuss it with you.

Traditional dental fillings include gold, porcelain, and tooth-colored composite. Newer alternatives include plastic and ceramic compounds that are often used on the front teeth where a natural appearance is important. There are two different kinds of fillings: Direct fillings (placed immediately into a prepared cavity in a single visit) and indirect fillings (include inlays, crowns, as well as bridges – and require at least two visits).
